Are you out of syrup and don’t want to make a run to the store? It’s super simple and easy to make your own syrup in just minutes.
Whether you need a simple syrup for mixed drinks, sweetening iced tea or baking, here’s how to make syrup at home.
How To Make Syrup

To make your own syrup, use one part sugar to one part water. If you use 1 cup of sugar and one cup water, you will make approximately 1 ½ cups of syrup.

Mix the sugar and water in a sauce pan.

Heat over medium high heat until the sugar is dissolved. It should look clear and without any sugar crystals remaining.

Bring to a light boil and cook for 4-5 minutes. The longer you cook it, the thicker the syrup will become.
But be careful, if you cook it too long, you’ll end up making candy instead of syrup.
Remove from heat and let cool. And there you have it, a quick and easy simple syrup.

How to Flavor Simple Syrup
One of the great things about this recipe is that it’s a wonderful base for any flavorings you want. For vanilla or maple syrup, stir in a teaspoon of flavoring after removing the syrup from the heat.
You can also add in orange or lemon zest, spices or herbs. It’s fun to experiment with different seasonings and combinations to create familiar flavors or discover new favorites.

For a super easy fruit syrup, mix a spoonful or two of jam or jelly into a half cup of syrup. This makes a great topping for pancakes or biscuits, or as a flavoring for homemade yogurt.
