Homemade Chocolate Syrup
Mix the sugar and cocoa powder together until well blended. Add the water and salt. Bring to a boil and stir until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla flavoring.
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
Mix the sugar and cocoa powder together until well blended. Make sure to break up any lumps in either the sugar or cocoa. It’s easier to get rid of the lumps in the dry ingredients first, than it is to try to break them up once the syrup is cooking. Add the water and salt, whisking to mix well. Over medium-high heat, bring to a gentle boil. Whisk until thickened, about 3-5 minutes. The longer it cooks, the thicker it will become. It will also get thicker as it cools. When it’s reached the desired thickness, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla flavoring. Let cool.
